Valentine's Day Glossybox

.
'Pretty in Pink: the Valentine's Day Edition. Of course Valentines Day is just around the corner and whether you believe in it or not, we want you to know how much we value you and make you feel extra special with this month's hot pink BOX! Packed with 5 practical and perfecting products, this BOX is all about being good to your lovely self.'

What was in the box

Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner - I love the unique packaging of the eyeliner and the creamy formula makes it incredibly easy to apply, but unfortunately I received the shade 'Emerald Green' which just isn't a shade I can see myself using.

Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream & Extra Firming Night Cream - These are the products in the box which I'm most excited to try! I've been really into skincare products lately and after a quick internet search, I've seen these two particular creams have got amazing reviews. I'm so excited to try them out!

FAB Gentle Body Moisturizer - This body moisturizer contains no parabens, harsh chemicals or colorants and claims to 'nourish the skin' and 'lock in moisture.' It's thick and creamy and when applied to my hands, left them incredibly smooth and hydrated.

Murad Hybrids Skin Perfecting primer - dewy finish - I use a primer in my makeup routine, religiously every day and although I typically prefer a matte finish to my makeup, I've recently been enjoying a lighter, more glowy finish.
.
.
My Thoughts

Firstly, I adore the limited edition, hot pink Glossybox! It's so pretty and girly! I don't think I'll be using the 'Emerald Green' eyeliner but that's just down to my personal preferences. My favourite products are the Clarins day and night creams - they more than make up for the green eyeliner! I'm also really excited to try the Murad face primer as I've only ever been impressed with Murad products I've previously tried. Overall, I'm really pleased with this month's box and think it was definitely worth the wait. I'm so excited to try out the products properly!

Review: Benefit Lip Plump

'For full, sexy lips use lip plump before lipstick. This neutral-toned lip enhancer helps to smooth and fill in fine lines while building up the contour of the lips, making them appear fuller and younger. This is the original lip plump since 1995! Contains jojoba oil, known to smooth and soften skin.'

 .
Benefit's Lip Plump claims to give the effect of 'full sexy lips.' It has relatively plain packaging for a Benefit product and is packaged in a simple, 7.0g tube with a doe foot applicator.

The first thing I must say about this product, is that I notice no plumping effect at all. I feel no tingling on application, like you would with other lip plumpers, and this definitely doesn't leave me with 'full sexy lips.' If you're looking for a product to give the illusion of fullness and plump your lips, this is not the product. However, this does make a fairly good lip primer. The nude beige shade completely blanks out lip colour, making a good base for lipstick or lipgloss and emphasizing their 'true colour.' You only need to use a little to achieve this and make sure it dries completely before lipstick application to avoid the shades mixing. I actually remember reading an article where Frankie Sandford said she used Benefit's Lip Plump to blank out the colour of her lips and stop them looking too red. Although this could also be acheived with a touch of concealer or foundation on the lips.

Lip Plump also contains jojoba oil to 'soften and smooth the skin'. On application, this does feel sticky and unpleasant on the lips but once it's dried and I've applied my lipstick, although I wouldn't say this keeps my lips moisturized, I haven't noticed any extra dryness either. I do notice a difference in the lasting-power of my lipstick when I use this and I find it does help it to stay on longer.

Overall I'm not really impressed with this, as for £14.50, it doesn't do what it says on the tube. If you're looking for a lip plumper, I definitely wouldn't recommend this! If you have very pigmented lips and want a product to blank out your lip colour, this may be a product worth considering as it's not as drying as concealer or foundation on the lips and does help lipstick to stay on. It also looks nice worn with a clear or pale lipgloss over the top as it is a pretty, nude shade.

Would I repurchase? No. For me, although this is a decent lip primer, this is not a must-have product and I don't feel it's worth the £14.50.

Repurchase: MAC Blot Powder

.
My latest, repurchased item is MAC's Blot powder in 'Medium Dark'. It's been a makeup bag staple for me since I very first bought it and I honestly can't see myself without it. Even if I'm out for the night and don't have my big makeup bag with me, I'll always have my blot powder and a lipstick in my clutch! The blot powder is perfect for touch-ups during the day to blot away any shine and keep oiliness at bay. If I start to look a bit shiny throughout the day, I reach straight for this - it's an absolute saviour!

As you can see from the photos, I haven't completely finished my current blot powder yet so the new one is obviously to use when I run out.

Review: YSL Faux Cils mascara

'An intense look in a single stroke with our must-have industry leading mascara. Yves Saint Laurent Volume Effet Faux Cils Luxurious Mascara's secret: the triple-film complex. A coating film for intensity, a conditioning film for curve, a fixing film for long-lasting effectiveness. Even the brush applicator combines nylon fibers of varying diameters for volume enhancement as never before.'
.
 .
Faux Cils isn't the cheapest mascara at £23 a tube, but I purchased mine from cheapsmells.com during a YSL sale and so I think it cost me around £12. The mascara comes in the signature YSL mirrored gold packaging which, as with all YSL products, looks luxurious and chic.

It has a standard mascara brush with lots of bristles, which is typically my favourite type of brush. I find it coats all my lashes well. With a single coat, Faux Cils adds drama, length and volume to my lashes, although I like to apply two coats. I've had so many people asking me if I'm wearing false lashes with Faux Cils! It definitely gives that dramatic, false lash effect!

The only negative I've found with this mascara is, whilst it was fine for the first three weeks of use, after that it became very dry and seemed to flake and clump on application to my lashes, making it very hard to work with! I'm not sure if I just got a dodgy tube which dried out too fast, but I do have another tube which I received for Christmas so I'll soon find out! I found this so annoying, as for an expensive, high-end mascara I'd expect it to last a few months before drying out!

I'm in two-minds about Faux Cils. I absolutely loved the dramatic, false lash effect it gave my lashes when I first used it, but I'm disappointed at how quickly it seemed to dry out. I'll be interested to see how the second tube compares, as if I was just unlucky with the first tube, I'd definitely repurchase this mascara. I will update you all once I've tested the second tube, fingers crossed!

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils

I've heard a lot about the NYX jumbo eye pencils and always wanted to try them, but NYX isn't a brand which is widely available in the UK and I'd just never gotten round to purchasing any, so when my mum gave me three as part of my Christmas present, needless to say, I was very excited.

The three shades I received are:

Yoghurt - a shimmering pale pink/champagne which looks gorgeous as an inner corner highlight.

French Fries - a metallic golden bronze which reminds me of Urban Decay's 'Smog' eyeshadow.

Slate - a dark, slate grey, perfect for a smokey eye or smudged under the lower lashline as a liner.

(Left to Right: Yoghurt, French Fries, Slate)
.
I love these jumbo eye pencils! They're soft and creamy in consistency, blend well, and have good lasting-power, although I do find they can crease quite easily. My favourite shade by far is 'Yoghurt' which I use, almost daily, as an inner corner highlight. It brightens up my eyes nicely, instantly making me look more awake. It's become a makeup bag staple!

My mum bought these from love-makeup.co.uk and they cost £4.50 each.

Let me know your favourite shades, I definitely want to get some more!

My Favourites: Face Masks

I love using face maks, and it was actually one of my New Years resolutions to try and use one every week. When I use face maks regularly I see such a difference in my skin and it always looks a lot clearer and healthier. I'm going to share with you some of my favourite face masks which I've been using and loving.

Liz Earle Deep Cleansing mask - £13.25

This mask contains clay and manuka honey. It claims to draw out impurities and excess oil to leave skin balanced, calm and clear. The mask itself is a greyish green and fairly runny in consistency. It applies easily onto the skin and a little goes a long way. I leave the mask on for about 10 minutes until it's completely set and then remove it with warm water and a sponge. After using this, my skin instantly appears brighter and clearer, and with regular use this really helps to combat oiliness and breakouts. I always reach for this mask if I have a break out and feel my skin's in need of a deep cleanse.

Arran Aromatics 'Feel Good Formulas' Sea Mud Face Mask - £8.50

This is also a deep-cleansing mask, containing natural kaolin and essential oils of bergamot and mint. It's fairly thick in consistency and creamy so it glides onto the skin. This is gentle on the skin and has a soothing effect, so would probably be good for sensitive skintypes. Like the Liz Earle mask, I leave this on for 10 minutes until it's set and then remove it with warm water. This has a similar effect to the Liz Earle mask and leaves my skin looking clearer and helps combat oiliness and shine, however it's not as intense as the Liz Earle mask.

Dead Sea Spa Magik Delicate Boosting Mask - £7.70
.

This is one of the products which I received though Glossybox. It's a face mask which claims to nourish, invigorate and revitalize skin. My skin can get quite dry in the Winter months so I do tend to reach for more moisturising products to help hydrate my skin. This mask contains no parabens, is allergan-free and is extremely gentle and soothing on the skin so is perfect for dry and sensitive skintypes. The mask is very creamy and applies easily onto the skin. I leave this on for about 10 to 15 minutes and then remove it, using warm water. The mask also contains tiny particles which gently exfoliate the skin when being removed. After use, my skin appears fresher, healthier and smooth to touch. My skin also feels a lot more moisturised. I'd only use this in the Winter months though as usually my skin is more combination/oily.

Another Sale Purchase

I recentley picked up this top from NEXT. It was in the sale and was reduced from £28 to £14. I love the colour, I think it will look nice with a tan! I usually stick to creams and neutrals so it's a nice change for me! I don't usually shop in NEXT but since buying a cardigan and jumper there, before Christmas, I've really been liking the clothes in there. I do think some of the clothes are quite expensive and a bit over-priced but they do a have a few basic items like tops and cardigans which are quite reasonably priced, and they always have good reductions in the sales too. so it's worth a look! The NEXT sale is still online here and most items are half price or less.

Review: The Body Shop Almond Body Butter

.

I've mentioned before that I'm a big fan of The Body Shop's body butters and have previously reviewed the Raspberry body butter.

The Almond body butter is for Normal/ Dry skin types. It's very rich and has a thick, creamy texture which melts on contact with the skin. I find the Almond body butter takes longer to soak in than other body butters, probably because it's targetted for dryer skintypes and so is a richer cream. It does leave my skin feeling greasy for a while so I only use it in the evenings before bedtime, to give it time to really soak in. It has a nutty, almond scent which is pleasant and not over-powering, although it's not my favourite scent.

This leaves my skin feeling incredibly moisturised and soft. It's very rich compared to the Raspberry body butter, which is a lot lighter and soaks in quickly, so it is perfect for use in the Winter months, when skin usually gets drier. My skin always tends to be in need of a bit more moisturising in Winter and this has really helped my skin stay smooth and soft. I'm enjoying using the Almond body butter and would repurchase it for use in the Winter months.

Sales Shopping 2011: Clothes

.
This is going to be Part 2 of my Sales Shopping haul featuring the clothing items I purchased. I mainly looked out for jumpers and cardigans in the sales because these are what I needed the most and I didn't want to buy loads of stuff just for the sake of it, like I have done every other year! I can't remember the original prices of the clothes so I've only put the sales prices, apart from the Mango cardigan which was originally priced at £39.90.
.

ASOS ruffle blouse - £16.50
Mango cardigan - £19.90

H&M cream jumper - £12.49
H&M beige cardigan - £12.99

Sales Shopping 2011: Makeup & Beauty

As mentioned in my previous post, the last few weeks have been quite manic, however I've still managed to find the time for a bit of sales shopping!  I do prefer to do sales shopping online, but you do have to get in there quickly or all the best things sell out! After Christmas I placed orders from H&M, ASOS, John Lewis and House of Fraser and manged to get a few bargains! My mum and I also ventured over to Lakeside last week, but I'm not really one for rummaging through the sales racks so I only bought a few bits. This is going to be Part 1 of my Sales Shopping Haul, featuring the makeup and beauty items I purchased and Part 2 will feature the clothing items.
.
LUSH 'Relax, Take a Bath' giftset - £5 (reduced from £10.50)

Benefit 'Ticket to Glossytown' lipgloss set - £13 (reduced from £19.50)

Essie nail polishes - £4.95 each (reduced from £9.50)
Left: Glamour Purse, Right: Power Clutch

.
Lancome 'Hypnose' and 'Hypnose Doll Eyes' mascara sets - £13.50 each (reduced from £20.50)
